Sasquatch and Dogman!
The Creatures of Klamath National Forest
Deep in the mountains of Northern California, where towering evergreens, rugged canyons, and isolated forest roads stretch for miles, there’s a wilderness with a long history of strange encounters.
This is the Klamath National Forest, a massive stretch of wilderness covering approximately 1.7 million acres near the California-Oregon border. And if you believe the stories, something unusual may be roaming these woods.
We’re talking about Sasquatch, and something potentially even more terrifying, Dogman.
Sasquatch Country
Northern California is practically the birthplace of modern Bigfoot folklore. Just west of the Klamath National Forest lies the legendary Bluff Creek area, where Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin filmed their famous footage of a supposed Sasquatch in 1967.
The surrounding Six Rivers National Forest, Trinity Alps, and remote communities along the Klamath River have become synonymous with Bigfoot sightings.
Witnesses have described massive, hairy, humanlike creatures moving through the trees, sometimes standing seven to nine feet tall. Reports often include enormous footprints, strange vocalizations, heavy footsteps, and the unmistakable feeling of being watched.
Some researchers believe the rugged terrain, abundant wildlife, and vast stretches of undeveloped wilderness make this region an ideal place for an undiscovered creature to remain hidden.
But Bigfoot isn’t the only cryptid rumored to inhabit Northern California.
The Dogman of Northern California
While Sasquatch is generally described as an enormous, ape-like humanoid, Dogman is something straight out of a nightmare.
Witnesses describe a creature resembling a wolf or canine, but with the ability to stand and walk upright on two legs. Some accounts describe pointed ears, an elongated snout, muscular shoulders, long claws, and glowing or reflective eyes.
Unlike Sasquatch, which is frequently portrayed as elusive and curious, Dogman has developed a reputation in cryptid folklore for being aggressive, territorial, and intimidating.
Dogman reports are far less established in the Klamath region than Bigfoot reports. However, stories of upright canine creatures circulate throughout the Pacific Northwest, including parts of Northern California and Southern Oregon.
Some cryptid enthusiasts speculate that these creatures could inhabit the same remote mountain corridors as Sasquatch, although there’s no scientific evidence confirming either creature’s existence.
A Wilderness of Strange Encounters
The Klamath Mountains connect several legendary areas, including the Marble Mountains, Trinity Alps, Siskiyou Mountains, and the forests surrounding the Klamath and Trinity Rivers.
Nearby Willow Creek proudly calls itself the Bigfoot Capital of the World, while Highway 96 has earned the nickname Bigfoot Scenic Byway.
In 1958, construction worker Jerry Crew discovered enormous footprints near Bluff Creek, helping popularize the name Bigfoot. Nine years later, the Patterson-Gimlin film would turn this remote region into one of the most famous cryptid hotspots on the planet.

And the stories haven’t stopped.
People continue to venture into these forests hoping to encounter something unexplained. Reports of strange screams, wood knocks, mysterious tracks, and shadowy figures keep the legends alive.
Of course, bears, mountain lions, and other wildlife can account for some frightening encounters. And despite decades of searching, no scientifically verified Sasquatch or Dogman specimen has ever been recovered.
But standing alone on an abandoned logging road, miles from civilization, surrounded by darkness and towering trees, it’s easy to understand why these stories persist.
Because out here, when something large moves through the trees, you might not want to find out what it is.
And if the legends are true, Bigfoot might be the least of your worries.
