Poltergeist Puddles, An Overlooked Paranormal Phenomenon

In some reported hauntings, witnesses describe something simple but hard to explain. Water appears indoors with no clear source.

Investigators sometimes refer to this as “poltergeist puddles.” The term isn’t official, but it’s used to describe unexplained patches or pools of water that suddenly show up inside homes or buildings.

These puddles are often found on floors in places where leaks don’t make sense. There may be no pipes overhead, no spilled liquids, and no signs of water intrusion from outside. In some cases, the area was completely dry just minutes earlier.

What makes the phenomenon stand out is repetition. The water may appear in the same location over and over, sometimes during periods of reported paranormal activity. People have described it happening alongside other disturbances like knocking sounds, objects moving, or electronics behaving strangely.

The puddles themselves vary. Some are clear, like clean water. Others are described as murky, oily, or even foul smelling. In rare cases, witnesses claim the liquid appeared quickly, as if it formed rather than spilled.

Within paranormal theory, this is often connected to Poltergeist activity. Poltergeists are associated with physical disturbances, and puddles are sometimes interpreted as a type of materialization event, where something physical manifests without an obvious source.

Some researchers also link the phenomenon to what’s called an apport, when an object or substance appears or is moved in ways that can’t be easily explained.

However, there are non paranormal explanations that should always be considered first. Hidden plumbing leaks, condensation, groundwater seeping through foundations, or HVAC issues can all create moisture in unexpected places. In some environments, temperature changes alone can cause water to form on surfaces.

Still, the phenomenon continues to be reported in cases where no clear cause is found.

Whether it’s a misunderstood physical process or something more unusual, poltergeist puddles remain one of the more subtle and intriguing claims in paranormal research.
