Contacting the Lemurians on Mt. Shasta.

Rising more than 14,000 feet above Northern California, *Mount Shasta* is more than an active volcano. For generations, it has been considered a sacred mountain, a spiritual center, and one of California’s strangest hotspots for UFO sightings, mysterious beings, unexplained lights, and stories of civilizations hidden beneath the earth. Long before the modern paranormal legends appeared, Indigenous peoples of the region regarded the mountain as sacred. Traditions vary between tribes, but Mount Shasta has long been associated with creation, powerful spiritual beings, and a landscape that deserves respect. Modern paranormal and New Age beliefs came much later and should not be confused with those older traditions. The strangest modern legend may be the story of the **Lemurians**. Lemuria began as a nineteenth century scientific hypothesis intended to explain similarities between animals found in India and Madagascar. Once plate tectonics provided a better explanation, Lemuria disappeared from mainstream science. But by then, occult writers had transformed it into something completely different… a lost civilization similar to Atlantis. Eventually, Lemuria became connected specifically to Mount Shasta. According to the legend, when Lemuria was destroyed thousands of years ago, some of its inhabitants escaped and established a civilization beneath Mount Shasta. This underground city is commonly called **Telos**. Stories describe the inhabitants as highly advanced beings who have mastered technologies and spiritual abilities far beyond our own. Some accounts describe Lemurians appearing above ground as unusually tall people wearing long white robes or sandals. Others claim entrances into Telos exist somewhere within the mountain’s caves and lava tubes, although no physical evidence of such a city has ever been discovered. Then there are the UFOs. For decades, visitors have reported strange lights moving around Mount Shasta, glowing objects disappearing near the summit, and objects that appear to enter or emerge from the mountain. Some believers claim Mount Shasta isn’t simply home to Lemurians but may contain an extraterrestrial base. The mountain’s spectacular *lenticular clouds* have only added fuel to the stories. These smooth, disc shaped formations can resemble enormous flying saucers hovering motionless above the summit. Meteorologists understand how these clouds form as moist air moves over the mountain, but their appearance has inspired theories that some could conceal spacecraft. There are stranger stories still. People have reported mysterious humanoids in the forests, unexplained voices, missing time, strange electromagnetic sensations, and the feeling of being watched while hiking remote areas. Bigfoot also has a long association with the greater Mount Shasta region. Some modern spiritual traditions even connect Sasquatch with the mountain’s supposed interdimensional activity. Indigenous traditions involving large forest beings exist as well, although they have their own cultural context separate from modern Bigfoot lore. Places such as **Pluto’s Cave**, a massive lava tube north of the mountain, have naturally become wrapped into the mythology. Explorers sometimes speculate that lava tubes could connect with deeper underground systems or even provide entrances into the legendary world beneath Shasta. There is no scientific evidence that Telos, Lemurians, extraterrestrial bases, or interdimensional portals exist beneath Mount Shasta. But that almost makes the mountain more fascinating. Because Shasta sits at a strange intersection between geology, Indigenous spirituality, nineteenth century occultism, UFO culture, cryptid sightings, New Age beliefs, and modern paranormal investigation. Maybe it’s simply a massive volcano surrounded by centuries of stories. Or maybe somewhere beneath the snow, rock, caves, and ancient lava flows… *there’s something we haven’t found yet.*
